This is an addendum to my earlier review on this product, which is now "resting in peace" (more precisely, pieces).

I burned it out the other night while making a batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (the dough for these is heavier than the tollhouse recipe I tested in my first review). A puff of white smoke was my only warning -- in fact, it wasn't really a warning, but the signal that my mixer would mix no more.

I opened the appliance to see if a fusible link had protected the motor. Alas, there was nothing like that, just light-gauge wires and springs that popped out. The motor died, and the motor is the heart of the mixer.

Still, I want to let my 4-star rating stand, with the warning that this mixer is really meant for lighter-duty use. It still represents a good value. Just be aware that if you're doing things like mixing heavy doughs, you'd really be better off with a small stand mixer.

Stay away from this product. It should be recalled. I was using this mixer for only the second time. I made a simple cake and while pouring it into the cake pan, I noticed dark little bits that turned out to be little metal colored flakes. I inspected the beater and saw that it was shedding chrome plating. You get what you pay for but I would think it would be cheaper to NOT plate the beaters and certainly cheaper not to face a recall.

I cook for a family of 5.

I make a lot of mashed potatoes that need whipping.
I have gone through my share of hand mixers.

So far I don't have any complaints about this hamilton beach model. It is powerful enough to whip up the potatoes. It comes with a case that fits right onto the bottom of the mixer that holds the cord and the beaters. This is wonderful since I no longer have to search through the drawers looking for the beaters.

Over all a wonderful mixer for the money if your just looking for a normal household hand mixer.

My old Sunbeam could no longer handle thick mixtures, so I purchased four new hand-mixers -- a couple Kitchenaids, Cuisinart, and something else (can't remember). Returned them all (mostly because the slowest speed was too fast). Purchased the Waring Pro WHM100 about a year ago, and I'm very pleased with it (AND it cost less than any of the other brands). It starts very slow on the lowest speed setting, so the mixture doesn't spray out of the bowl. The thin-wire beaters can handle even thick mixtures, and I like the styling and color. I did not think I'd care about the digital time indicator, but it's actually very nice to have. Much easier to watch that clock than to glance repeatedly at your wall clock to keep track of how much time you've been mixing (plus I've learned that I have been routinely underestimating the time I've been beating something). Very happy with the mixer. Used an inexpensive Sunbeam handmixer for over 20 years until the beaters rusted out and broke off. This mixer is heavier, but easy to use and keep clean. The new beaters won't rust and can even be washed in the dishwasher. The digital timer isn't necessary, but it's surprisingly convenient because I no longer have to set my microwave timer. Would recommend this mixer to others.

I just got this mixer and have only used it once but I love it! I have had some bad luck with mixers recently. I really feel like this one will be able to handle thick mixtures without trouble. I turned it up to the highest setting just to check it out and it felt like a power tool. And the low setting is actually low and doesn't make everything spray out of the bowl. The timer is really handy also. Be careful with the eject button though. It actually shot the beaters out. But I thought it was kinda funny.

After tearing through 2 stick blenders in 6 years, I tried this one -- and let me tell you -- the KitchenAid takes the prize. The motor (the highest powered I found on the market) is tough enough for batters and heavy mixing, and still with the multiple speeds and whisk attachment, is light-handed enough for making fast work of whipping cream, and egg whites.

The chopper is worth the upgrade from the stick alone as it will do everything the old counter-top hogging food processors ever dreamed of doing, but with half the clean up time. It also makes it easy for chopping just enough for one or two servings without breaking out the heavy hardware.

Unless you use a mixer for tons of cookie dough or to knead bread (in which case you want the biggest and toughest counter-top kitchenAid stand mixer you can afford...) then this is the best I've seen. For seven years, I was using a Braun Multiquick that I got at Costco for $20. That little machine would whip up anything from cream to margaritas with barely a peep. Seven years of abuse took their toll and my trusty Braun died.

I thougt it would be worth upgrading, and the KitchenAid seemed like a good bet: apparently strong motor, the usual attachments, and a nice bright red. I'm a sucker for color.

I managed to go through three of these hand blenders in a year. One of my main uses for a wand-style blender is frozen fruit smoothies. The real test is frozen strawberries, but the first one I killed choked on frozen mango chunks, about four weeks into owning it. The motor jammed up and overheated, eventually shorting out and dying.

I have to commend both Amazon and KitchenAid for their customer service. They obliged me with prompt replacements, and finally, after the demise of the THIRD KHB300ER, KA reimbursed me. However, I have to say... Read more

As some other reviews have mentioned, labeling this as a 500 watt unit is a bit inaccurate, as the US version is really only 320 watts. That does not detract from the fact that this is a very effective blender. I have used large commercial sized immersion blenders in a professional kitchen which would be overkill for home use, but the Dualit is perfect for my needs.

I have used it for emulsifying salad dressings and blending fruit smoothies. It quickly purees fairly thick soups (gallon-sized quantities in a large stock pot) with no stalling or overheating.

I highly recommend it.

I wanted to share this with others who may order this for the 500watts of power - it is only 320 watts! I burned out a 250w blender recently, and ordered this thinking it was double power. It wasn't much heavier when I removed it from the box, so I looked at the motor, and it said 320w. Evidently the 500w was the power of the european/220v motor, even though the outside of the box says plain as can be "500w".

Needless to say, I returned it. I can't really rate it, just say it isn't what it says it is.

I bought this to replace a cheap $5 immersion blender. The failure mode was that the blender connection was metal, but the motor side was plastic and got tore up. I attempted to find a reasonably priced immersion blender with both parts made of metal but couldn't. As a result I settled on this one based on mostly good reviews, more attachments than most and the variable speed motor. I use this to mix protein drinks after my workout. After about 2 months of use, I am definitely impressed with the quality of it. The blender is a little heavy, but conveys the feeling that it is solidly built. I've only used the standard mixing attachment and the cup, which has handy graduates in mL and oz. I've used the wisk, but just as a hand wisk and it worked fine. The mixer can be a little hard to clean because there is an o-ring seal behind the blades. So far, the plastic gear on the motor doesn't show any wear. The idea is great. All of these pieces, 1 motor piece. Great, right?

Well the chopped attachment connects to the wand poorly. I used it once and it's already hard to connect again.

I use the immersion blender the most. It also has the largest flaw. There is a rubber gasket under the blade that traps food and water, which turns to mildew and mold. Can't clean under or around that. So my stick blender is pretty much not usable, because its not sanitary.

I just bought this mixer after reviewing Amazon comments and other Web sites. Amazon users give the Cuisinart mixed reviews, but several other sites, such as Cooks.com give it very high marks -- equal to or better than the KitchenAid. It came down to this mixer or a KitchenAid. I decided to buy the Cuisinart, based on the 3-year warranty. One use tells me the mixer has the power I need. It feels and looks first rate, and the beaters do a great job. I agree with everything the first reviewer said in his excellent review, except I don't think the beater release is all that flimsy, unless you are trying to jam attachements in that aren't made for the unit. I'd be reluctant to use other brand dough hooks or attachments as he suggested. The ones I have from a previous mixer are not only larger on the tips (he filed those down) but are also a bit thicker on the shafts. I think you're asking for trouble if you try to force other units' attachments into this mixer. I rate it four stars... Read more

I was in the market for a new hand held mixer after the KitchenAid that I got for Christmas a couple of years back died an ignominious death while making a simple batch of chocolate chip cookies. I have a twenty year old, Heavy Duty, 325 watt KitchenAid stand mixer that has never let me down and I expected better from their hand held mixer. I could go on, but that's another story.

I had my search narrowed down to this seven speed Cuisinart and the Dualit (made in England) hand mixers and decided to go with the Cuisinart partly because it was lower in cost and partly because I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to get parts or repair support for the Dualit in case it ever needed it. Cuisinart is a major supplier of kitchen electrics in the USA and service centers are nearly everywhere.

The Cuisinart boasts 7 speeds, and there is truly 7 different speeds. The first speed is quite slow, unlike the low speed of the Dualit, while the highest speed is quite brisk... Read more

It's a convenient mixer and does a good job whipping up eggs and light batters. I have gone through two of these. Even though the warranty on both mixers were for 3 years, both of them stopped working after about, well, three years. The plastic parts inside don't hold up, and parts are not available for fixing it. Also be warned that the product registration card is only for marketing purposes. When I called, they did not have my product registered with customer service. The only way to get a replacement mixer if yours breaks is to present a receipt, so keep your receipt: you will need it in about three years.

I'm really happy with this overall. The only issue is that you have to hand wash the whisk attachment. I put it in the top rack of the Dishwasher after the first time I used it, and the upper housing was full of water when the wash cycle was done. It took a while to shake out all the water, lesson learned. Perhaps if I actually opened the manual, this warning would be in bold red letters, but what's the fun in that!

I am very very happy with my purchase, the whole thing was a little larger than I thought, but it turned out to be even better, I was affraid it wouldn't chop small quantities very well, but wrong, it even chops a small onion! The blades are very sharp, the mixer works great and the best part is the pad like thing under each bowl, which helps you hold the bowl on its place and not scratch the table while blending or chopping (not that it moves while working with), you can use the pad as a lid for the bowl if you want to, which is a very useful thing. I had a Braun blender 6 years ago which I was very happy with, but this one is the best! I just dont understand why they dont put an on/off button, you have to hold the button all the time you're working, which is not very long by the way! Cause this baby is quick!

Besides the fact that it blends leek and potato soup into a beautiful cream quickly, it also makes homemade mayonnaise in less than a minute, including the time it takes to gather the ingredients. I love handblenders. I have this one and its attachments, and I use it pretty regularly. I have two complaints: 1) the powercord is thick, cumbersome, and hard to keep out of one's way. I had a cordless unit from a different manufacturer before, and I must say--the extra power here is nice, but I'm not 100% convinced the hassle of the cord is really worth that extra umph very often. 2) and here's the kicker--there's no actual "on" switch. You've got to hold it on the whole time. I really wanted to give one to my mom for Xmas, but she simply doesn't have the hand-strength any longer to make use of this unit. It takes me two hands to keep it held "on," and my hands cramp up when I've got something that I need to blend for a sustained amount of time. That said, this is a lovely unit (I adore the red color), and I get lots of use out of it. I bought this to replace a Braun I had for 15 + years. This was to replace the cheap Braun on which the motor finally gave out after thousands of uses. I have the most expensive Braun and it is the best ever made, however Braun has stopped making hand blenders all together (I wrote to Braun and that is what they told me). I have always thought kitchen aid to be a great product and in the past they were, until they sold out to Westinghouse. The blender works well, although the slowest speed is higher than medium speed on my Braun.

The problem is the seal on the bottom of the mixing shaft under the blade. There is a rubber gasket or sealer that does not seal, but traps blended food under it. After a through washing and allowing it to stand and dry the food particles leak out and dry. I used mine daily, week days at work, to make a whole food/protein shake. BRAUN HAND BLENDER/CHOPPER

After owning a few cheaper units, I sprang for the Braun Hand Blender/Chopper and am very pleased with my choice. While I have mainly used mine for its easy blending-in-the-pot capabilities, I admit the chopper has equal merits, especially when you only need to chop a small quantity of ingredients.

I love being able to immerse the blade right in my soup pot to blend or puree soups and sauces without the mess of getting out my food processor or countertop blender. The blade does a quick job of pureeing and wash-up is a dream. I can't imagine cooking without this handy device.

Highly recommended.

Bought one of these thinking it was a little overpriced, but the more I use it in the kitchen, the more I realize it was a real good price. Makes baby food in about a minute, mayo in about the same, hommous in a bit more, and the vacuum containers that also came in my "kit" are nice for long conservation of dried goods and hard cheese... I haven't tried other containerizations yet. And above all, it's a snap to clean up (run it a couple seconds in the dish water, and volait!)

I just wanted to tell everyone that you do not get the wall mount for the hand blender, nor do you get a lid for the beaker. There is also a whisk attachment that may be sold separately. It shows in your manual, but you do not get that either. Otherwise, this blender is excellent and is a workhorse. I live in Israel and this blender works just fine for me with the plugs here being 220v. I make mayonnaise in the beaker with the blender and it is so much better and easier than using a food processor. It always turns out much better with the hand blender. The chopper is excellent and I have chopped up just about everything with it. I also made coconut butter with it using shredded coconut and letting it go until I get butter. If you do not have the money for a food processor, blender, and mixer, this item will replace all of them in the meantime. Just got this today. I like the fact that it comes apart for ease of cleaning. I made a "shake" with skim milk, 3 ice cubes, Splenda and raspberries. It doesn't make "whipped cream" but it will make a low calorie shake/snack. Be sure to follow mfgs. directions. Use it for 60 seconds, then let it rest for 3 minutes to avoid burning out the motor.

I just got mine yestarday, for just $30. Great value, I got the chopper and the mixer for small things. I just puree some canned tomatoes, I would not get my bleder dirty just for that, but this is so easy to clean.... It does his job fine.

I owned a Braun Multimix before this and after 8 + years it finally gave up so i purchased this one as i mainly needed an immersion blender.

Immersion blender: even though the shaft is metal the parts inside are all plastic so within a year the the washer holding the shaft inside broke with casual use.

Chopper; this is even worse. it broke when i tried to chop onions. The other problem i had with this is that it takes a lot of figuing out how exatly to get the the top of the chopper to align with the base. just any position wont do and they have no arrows to tell you teh correct position.

Knife: i really dont use it for much apart from slicing bread.. as thats really all you can do with this. its super noisy. this is the only attachment that is still working.

Yes the motor is very powerful and works fine, but what to do with it when all the attachments broke apart? the oster site does not even have a replacement part for this model... Read more

I had bought another brand that was cheaper and only had 1 speed and after the first use I returned it. This price was more than I wanted to spend and I really didn't want the chopper or whip attachments, but I went for it anyway because of the dual speed and power. I use this at least 2 times a week and I am pleased with the performance. The lower speed is a good way to start the process and the higher speed finishes the job. Cleaning right after use is important to avoid food buildup under the blade -it is a little tricky to get under the blade. Just follow the directions for cleaning and it's a snap.

Note: the first time after using the chopper attachment I struggled to get the wand attachment to hook onto the motor portion. I thought it was defective. I just had to push really hard and then it was fine. The same thing happened the second time after using the chopper, but since then I have not had any problems at all.

My wife is the cooking expert and she was reluctant to spend the extra money for the Viking, but she now says it was worth every penny. Just the feel of it in her hand, the steady, low vibration during running, and the overall power are impressive. The only reason for 4 stars is because she hasn't used it enough to rate long term performance. I have had the Cuisinart plug in hand blender, but wanted to go cordless. I finally broke down and got this one. It is nice to be cord free, but it is pretty heavy, and big for my hands. It does blend well. The other thing I do not like, is that when you charge the base, it does not give you a green light that it is charged. That would be helpful.

It is also very easy to charge, because the handle has a plug built right into it, no separate base. I really like the small mixer bowl attachment that came with it as well. I have used it more than I expected.

This is a wonderfully powerful hand blender. It is LARGE. People with small hands might want hold one first before making an online purchase. I am not delighted with nicad batteries since they are fussy about being discharged before being recharged, but maybe they are necessary due to the large current draw of the motor. This is ideal for pureed soups. No more 10 trips to the blender with hot soup dribbling all over the counter or burning my hands.

I bought this product late November of 2009 and initially liked it fine. Here is what I wrote initially:
"Works fine. When you had a Braun previously, as I did, some of the parts don't stick together as easily as you are used to. Works fine though, and has a stronger engine than the Braun did. For pure functionality it deserves 4 stars."
Based on this I gave the Miallegro 3 Stars.
Now we are 10 weeks later and 2 knobs that hold the motor part and the attachments together have come off. Not good, obviously. Am now about to call customer service to get the product replaced and will update on how that goes.
But the fact that this has happened at all, shows this isn't a very well engineered product unfortuntely...
Consider yourself warned.

After reading so many good reviews of this blender, and wanting a powerful one, I thought I had found a winner with the Miallegro. Unfortunately, my first attempt to use the blender resulted in the blade and other internal assembly falling off the wand and into my soup. The design is definitely wanting. In theory, having various blades for different tasks to attach to the motorized wand makes sense, but they do not attach securely or easily. The instructions suggest using pliers to squeeze on tightly if necessary. That really shouldn't be necessary in an adequate design. I returned this blender and am awaiting my refund, having lost out on shipping costs. Needless to say, I was very disappointed and am resuming my search.

I thought i might take a chance on this one, since the only review was a bit dubious. Although i have only had it a couple of days i can say that i like it. It is clearly made of good quality materials, unlike the cheap plastic popular brands. Not to say that there are not plastic parts though, the base of the attachments is only stainless steel on the outside, inside it is plastic, along with the gears that connect to the wand, a little disappointed with that. It does feel like it attaches firmly though, which i am happy about because that is often where they seem to break and the attachment wont stay on or the gear strips. Very heavy wand likely will get tiring to hold, but thats the price of more power. Also, the blender attachment is much longer then the wisk, unlike the picture shows, it must be at least 4 or 5 inches longer then shown, which is really nice.
